Q&A: My website WWW doesn't point to my main site

QUESTION:
I have moved my domain to Inside Real Estate and changed my DNS settings on my domain at my registrar (ie. GoDaddy or another domain name provider).

When I type in my domain name to the browser, it goes right to my inside real estate site (ie. http://yourdomainname.com).  When i use the www, however (ie. http://www.yourdomainname.com), it goes to my old site or does not work.  How do I make this work?

ANSWER:
When you change your DNS settings on your website, the provider (companies like GoDaddy), consider your root or base domain different from your www version of your domain. This means you'll need to add another setting into your domain to point the www version to your root/base domain.

Luckily, it isn't too complicated.

You'll need to add an A Record to your site pointing your WWW record to your main domain (ie. http://yourdomainname.com) or you can often use the '@' sign to indicate your root domain.
