Mapping your Domain through GoDaddy.com
This training is to help you understand the process of mapping domains to your IRE website. This is done through you domain registrar. The most popular of which is Godaddy.com so our training will focus on completing the process through Godaddy. IRE can help you understand the process and can perform it for you, on any domain registrar, if you’d like to give us your account login information.
Domain Mapping: The first two ways you remain on our site using our server. Domain Mapping takes you off of our site. This means that when they type in myhomes.com it will take them to myhomes.com and so when they go to different pages on your site it will appear as myhomes.com/blog or myhomes.com/aboutme.
- This process is standard for all domain companies. We are just trying to change the “a” record to point to 96.126.119.195. If you were to call your domain company and explained just that part, they should be able to assist you easily as well.
1. Navigate to Godaddy.com Find the login section in the top left corner. Here you will put your username (or customer number) and password.
2. You’ll then launch your Domain Manager by clicking the ‘Launch’ button to the right of Domains. This will give you access to edit and modify the settings for your various domains.
3. You’ll then see a screen similar to the one below. Here, you will choose the domain you want to map.
- Generally, a good rule of thumb, for SEO purposes, is choosing the oldest domain. This gives your domain seniority and more credibility to Google (search engines).
- All your other domains you own should be forwarded to this domain. If you need help forwarding, please see our tutorial about forwarding domains.
4. After you’ve clicked on the domain, the Domain details page will open. Here, you will find the “Launch” button under the DNS Manager section.
5. In this screen, you can change the A record. The first record listed is the “A” record.
- Click on the old I.P address that is in there by default and you will be able to edit the I.P address.
- Change it to 96.126.119.195
- After that, you can click ‘Save Zone File’ on the right site. You’re done!
